MARC Livesley smashed a phenomenal NINE straight
sixes in a quickfire century last night as Kings Arms opened their Gullick Cup
campaign with a win.
In this week's fixture, Billingshurst side Kings Arms raced to 189-6 off 15
eight ball overs.
Livesley smashed a century off 100 off 32 balls, and his nine sixes in
succession came off the last six balls of an over and the next three balls he
faced.
But due to the level of cricket the feat was achieved, whether it was a record
or not cannot be varified.
The maximums were sandwiched by a maiden over faced by Tom Clarke. In reply,
Cherry Tree reached 177 all out off 14.2 overs. Greg Barton led the way for
them with 66 runs while Craig Marshall claimed figures of 4-31.
Kings Arms' Chris Shambrook, who was scoring the match, said: "The wagon
wheel was pretty one directional, only one of them was to extra cover, the rest
were over cow corner."
"It was his first ever century and I think Marc was pretty stunned by it.
Nine sixes in a row is pretty special."
Hugh Chevallier, deputy editor of the Wisden Almanack said: "It certainly
is remarkable when you bear in mind that six sixes in an over has only been
achieved four times in first class cricket.
"But I could not say if nine successive sixes has ever been done before as
we do not have records for that level of cricket. A 32 ball century will have
been improved upon before.
"But, to hit 54 runs off nine deliveries cannot be improved on."
